Fieldwork, Clinicals, Shadowing

Every year, AOT offers a limited number of shadowing, fieldwork, clinical and shadowing  opportunities to students interested in pursuing occupational and physical therapy careers. Applicants are accepted and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, depending upon the availability of therapists to supervise the students.

CLEARANCES:

The following clearances (must be for EMPLOYMENT, not volunteer), which are dated less than 24 months old, must be received prior to assigning students to therapists:

  • Act 33 Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
    • The Pennsylvania State Police has also established a web-based computer application called “Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History,” (PATCH) Using this system, a requestor can apply for a criminal background check on an individual.  Eighty-five percent of the time, “No Record” certificates are returned immediately through the Internet to the requestor.

ARREST AND CONVICTION (PDE6004)

MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING

All OT Fieldwork Students and PT Clinical Students must show proof of having completed mandated reporter training.

The University of Pittsburgh Social Work Department has an online course for this training. Click here.

APPLICATION

An information form/confidentiality form must be completely filled out and submitted for consideration with the clearances, along with a clear digital photo.
